Abike Dabiri Has Not Called Us – Family Of Man Killed By Her Orderly
Family of the deceased teenager killed in Abuja beer parlour by Abike Dabiri-Erewa’s police orderly has told Peoples Gazette that the politician did not reach out to them to offer condolences.

It has been over a month since Samson Jonah was killed by a drunk officer attached to Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa in Abuja. Mr. Jonah was shot dead while having his breakfast at a beer parlour by Samanja Johnson, an inspector who was heavily drunk on burukutu, a locally-brewed, corn-based alcohol, witnesses told the Gazette.
The October 3 incident gripped residents of Apo-Dutse, who demanded justice against the police officer. The police later took Mr. Samanja into custody, but has yet to be charged in the murder of the 19-year-old.
Mr. Jonah’s uncle, Gom Pius, who has been representing the family in Abuja, Mrs. Abike- Erewa did not visit nor sympathise with the family.
“We did not set our eyes on any representatives from the police and Abike Dibiri office to sympathise with the family,” Mr. Pius said.
Mr. Pius, however, confirmed that Mr. Johnson’s family showed sympathy and donated a cash gift of N200,000 towards burial.
“Only the Inspector (Samanja Johnson) own family on their own donated money to us when we buried our son 10 days after he was killed,” Mr. Pius said.
The Gazette understands that Mr. Jonah was laid to rest on October 13 in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. Ms. Dabiri-Erewa did not return multiple calls and messages for comment Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Erewa, who has since received another police protection, has led the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission since her appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016.

‘Opposition to APC membership registration will produce surrogate leaders’

By Jide Orintunsin, Abuja and Simon Utebor, Yenagoa
- Northwest chairmen back committee on register
- Bayelsa faction faults panel’s reconciliation comment
Director General of Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Salihu Moh’d Lukmam, has said those who oppose the proposed membership registration and update of the register of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are calling for the emergence of surrogate leadership.
He also faulted those who claimed that the Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the party lacks the power to conduct the proposed registration.
The forum’s DG argued that it would be counter-productive to have a National Convention without a verifiable party register.
Some party members and stakeholders are against the proposed registration, saying the caretaker committee lacked the mandate to conduct the exercise.
The opposition to the exercise threatened to take legal action should the committee conduct the membership verification, registration and register update.
Lukman, who was reacting to the tension being generated by the proposed exercise, announced the party’s stand in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
“When was the last time anybody was registered as APC member in any part of the country? When was the last time any ward in the country transmitted to any local government secretariat and/or local government transmitted any copy to national secretariat? Yet, our party’s constitution provides that membership records should be updated every six months.”
The Northwest state chairmen backed the update of the party’s register.
A statement yesterday in Abuja by the Northwest APC State Chairmen’s Forum, Isa Sadiq Acida, reads: “We, the Northwestern States All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmen, comprising Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Jigawa, Kano and Kaduna states, wish to express our unflinching support and confidence in the APC National Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), led by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.
“We acknowledge and commend the committee’s efforts at repositioning the party…”
Also, a faction of the APC in Bayelsa State, led by Mr. Ebierien Itubor, has debunked the claim by the Buni-led committee that the factions in Bayelsa and a few other states have been reconciled.
In a statement yesterday, Itubor said: “We are not surprised by the claims being made by Yekini Nabena. Nabena is a stooge of Chief Timipre Sylva. It should be known by the National Caretaker Committee that there was never a time any reconciliation meeting was called and the status of the party is that the contentious issues have not been resolved.
“Or, is it that when two or three persons sit in Abuja to discuss party affairs over champagne, the reconciliations have been concluded? The Bayelsa APC is fragmented along factions and these factions are calling on the …reconciliation committee and the Governor Buni-led committee not to allow Sylva-led faction to hoodwink them into false claims and instigate huge failure for the party.”

Adire Now School Uniform In Ogun
Ogun State Governor, Prince @dabiodunMFR , has called on the @NGRPresident to adopt Adire as an attire for national events and as a cultural symbol in the nation’s foreign missions, to further promote the rich culture of the nation to the outside world.

Governor Abiodun made the call at the official launch of Ogun Adire Digital Market Place at the June 12 Cultural centre, Kuto, Abeokuta. He also advocated the making of ceremonial dress from Adire for the nation’s athletes taking part in International Sporting activities.
Already, the Governor said, starting from next term, adire fabric would become official school uniform in all public schools in the State. “I want to call on all stakeholders in the information, culture and tourism sectors to partner with us in promoting this national heritage.
I want to particularly call on our Honourable Minister of @FMICNigeria to help promote the Adire at the National level. For example, members of the Federal Executive Council and other top government functionaries can adopt the Adire for National events.
example, members of the Federal Executive Council and other top government functionaries can adopt the Adire for National events.
“Our Foreign Missions could also adopt the Adire fabric as a cultural symbol that will further project our rich culture to the outside world. Same thing could also be done by our Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports by making the ceremonial dress of our athletes from local fabrics such as our Adire. This will go a long way in promoting the local contents and give expression to President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration’s “produce what we use” and “grow what we eat” policies”, he noted.
Abiodun maintained that the event was to provide a global platform for the marketing and distribution of Adire fabric and it’s entire value-chain to the global markets and serve as a melting-pot for all participants in the entire value-chain and provides opportunities for a wider coverage of the market for people to reach out to vendors and transact businesses by logging into the Adire Digital Mall.

He said plans have reached advanced stage to make Adire an important aspect of every day life, as all top government functionaries in the State now wear Adire on Fridays, just plans are underway to make the Adire part of School uniform, saying it would empower more people and further stimulate the Adire economy.
The Governor called on Investors to take advantage of the new Adire Ogun Digital Market Place by partnering and intensifying their collaboration with the State in the development of arts, culture and tourism.
Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, in his address applauded the state for making efforts to showcase adire in the international arena, adding that it was in line with the Federal government diversification policy.
He said the Adire Ogun Digital market place, would serve as a veritable platform to marketing local fabrics, create employment and promote the nation’s cultural heritage, calling stake to make the best of the opportunity.

Wife of the Governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun described the Adire Ogun Digital market place as a consolidation of centuries of creativity and enterprise which would benefit more women when exposed to national and international market, calling on producers to always think about the environment, by disposing used chemicals properly.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Oluwatosin Taiwo, opined that tourism, apart from creating jobs, could also generate revenue which would assist the socio-economic development of the state.
He said the State was blessed with world class tourism potentials that would generate foreign exchange, adding that the history of Abeokuta would not be complete without adire. He observed that depite influx of foreign fabrics, Adire was still making huge impact on the State and country.

Speaking, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Oludotun Gbadebo, who described adire as foreign exchange earner, also harped on proper handling of chemicals used in producing adire, as it was dangerous and harmful to health.
