AIB Finds Black Box Of Crashed Jet, Investigation Begins

The Nigerian Army Force (NAF) has directed the Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria (AIB -N) to commence investigation into the crash of the military aircraft that happened on Friday, May 21 at the Kaduna International Airport.

Military plane crashes were previously investigated by a board within the Nigerian Airforce, without the intervention of the AIB, a body statutorily established to investigate air accidents and serious incidents in the aviation sector.

In a statement released on Saturday, May 22 by the General Manager, Public Affairs of AIB, Tunji Oketunbi, the black box of the aircraft has been found and investigation into the incident has started.

He said;

“Investigators will download and analyse vital information contained in the recorders at the AIB-N’s world class Flight Safety Laboratory, in Abuja.”

Sad news dawned on the citizens of Nigeria on Friday, as they lost their Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 other military officers in a fatal air crash.

Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff and other 10 military officers have been laid to rest in Abuja on Saturday, May 22.

A funeral service took place at the Air Force Protestant Church at the Air Force base in Abuja for the Christian officers and the National Mosque in Abuja for the Muslim officers. READ HERE
