Arsenal news live: Gunners owner back the club to sign Szoboszlai, Mikel Arteta on Partey, Ceballos, Luiz

Arsenal news and gossip is coming in thick and fast and Sportarena is on hand to bring you all the very latest from Emirates stadium.

Gunners owner prepared to back the club to sign Dominik Szoboszlai in January

Arsenal owner Kroenke Sports & Entertainment are prepared to invest in strengthening the team still further and high-level discussions are already underway with a view to launching a big for the RB Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

Mikel Arteta was able to bolster his squad in the summer with the additions of Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey, while Aubameyang’s contract standoff came to a positive conclusion after the club skipper signed a new, lucrative long-term deal.

Despite the additions, Arsenal have made a mediocre start to the new Premier League campaign, losing four of their eight matches so far. And while Mikel Arteta has, to a degree, helped solidify a notoriously porous defence, it has come at the cost of his side’s attacking play.

The north London club managed just nine goals so far and have a negative goal difference following the 3-0 thumping they received at the hands of Aston Villa prior to the international break.

Mikel Arteta attempted to sign Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar during the summer transfer window but Arsenal were unable to agree a fee with their Ligue 1 counterparts.

Adding some creativity to his midfield remains a priority for Mikel Arteta and club, according to The Athletic, are considering a move for Dominik Szoboszlai, who would represent a considerably cheaper option given the £25million release clause in his RB Salzburg contract.

It adds that club owner prepared to invest in strengthening Mikel Arteta’s squad and high-level discussions are already underway with a view to launching a big for Szoboszlai, who scored five goals and contributed eight assists in all competitions for RB Salzburg so far this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side are likely to face stiff competition for the Hungarian international with both Real Madrid and RB Leipzig monitoring his situation.

Mikel Arteta on David Luiz and Dani Ceballos fight in training

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted there is no issue between Dani Ceballos and David Luiz following their training ground bust-up last week, claiming such problems ‘happen a lot’.

As reported by The Athletic, Brazilian defender Luiz, 33, had a scrap with his 24-year-old Spanish team-mate – who was left with a scratch on his nose following the altercation – during a practice match in training last Friday and had to be separated by Mikel Arteta.

Both players were sent home afterwards and forced to apologise to one another but the Gunners manager denied the incident – claimed he couldn’t see Luiz ‘hitting’ Ceballos and insisted the problem has now been resolved.

‘[It was] nothing [other] than training is competitive and issues happen a lot of times and those things get resolved immediately within the team and not much to say,’ Arteta said ahead of his side’s trip to Leeds on Sunday.

Asked if there was now no problem with the pair, who have since apologised to each other, Arteta confirmed: ‘No problem at all.’

Arsenal confirm Thomas Partey will miss trip to Leeds United

Thomas Partey has been ruled out of Arsenal’s clash against Leeds United this weekend due to a thigh injury.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who joined from Atletico Madrid on deadline day, was hauled off in the defeat by Villa before the international break due to the strain.

Partey has undergone rehabilitation at the club’s training base, but the Ghana star will not be ready in time to make the trip to Elland Road.

His setback meant he also missed Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Sudan.

Mikel Arteta had hoped that Thomas Partey would have been able to return, but Arsenal confirmed on their website that the enforcer, who has impressed since his arrival, will be forced to sit out again.

It is unclear when Thomas Partey is expected to return – and the player will continue to be monitored by the club’s medical team.

Mohamed Elneny and Sead Kolasinac will also be absent after testing positive for coronavirus recently.

Both players are understood to be asymptomatic and contracted the virus while on duty with their nations.

Defender Kolasinac’s positive result was revealedon Wednesday by the Bosnian FA, with Elneny sidelined and forced to quarantine two days prior.

The Egyptian midfielder tested positive for a second time on Thursday alongside Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

The duo will return to the UK shortly, where they will be tested once again and expected to complete a mandatory 10-day isolation period.

Elneny and Kolasinac are also likely to miss the Europa League clash against Molde next week.
