Bethel Students’ Kidnappers Demand N500k Per Student, Promise Release

The kidnappers of the students of Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna have demanded an individual sum of 500,000 naira per student as ransom, totaling N60m to release the children.
Recall that these bandits had, in the early hours of Monday 5th July, 2021 stormed the school and carted away with students, which we later numbered to be 140. A few of them have returned but 120 are still with the bandits.

The bandits had earlier demanded food stuffs with specifications, to feed the students with, without the mention of release or ransom. They, have however, stated how much they want to release. the students in their custody, agreeing to 500,000 per child, after so much back and forth.

Leadership, a Nigerian daily reported that a parent who disclosed the news of the ransom request to its correspondent on anonymity said the bandits had demanded hundreds of millions, but after several days of negotiations, they reduced it to N500,000 per student, making a total of N60 million.

Expressing the hope that if the ransom demand was met on Monday 19th July, the students would have been released on Tuesday as promised by the bandits, the parent reportedly said the church and parents of the students were working hard to raise the ransom. the parents reportedly added that the bandits want the ransom paid before Salah today Tuesday.
