One Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Popoola Kayode, leader of Taskforce team operating around Lekki Ajah area of Lagos State and his team members have been arrested for collecting N100,000 bribe.

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Taskforce), Head, Public Affairs Unit, Adebayo Taofiq said this in a statement on Sunday made available to newsmen in Lagos State.


Taofiq said that the bribe was paid by one Didi Ekanem, the owner of a Toyota Venza with registration number: APP 775 GJ who was caught driving against traffic (one-way) around Lekki Ajah Expressway.

According to him, the statement was necessitated in response to a story published in the news.

“The leader of the team, Kayode is not the Commander of the Agency as quoted in the report which said that the money (N100,000) was collected via bank transfer to his (Kayode) account.

“After the transfer, the vehicle was then released to Ekanem,” Taofiq said.

He said that the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi upon the investigation of the incident which happened on Wednesday, Nov.18 immediately arrested Kayode and his team members.

“They will be sent back to the Lagos State Police Command for further disciplinary actions,” the unit head said.

Zabarmari Massacre: UN withdraws ‘110’ casualty figure

The United Nations (UN) has withdrawn its initial casualty figure of 110 farmers being killed by Boko Haram in Zabarmari community of Borno state.

Making a clarification on Monday November 30, the international agency said the figure was not yet confirmed.

Eve Sabbagh, UN’s head of public information in Nigeria said the “110 casualty figure” was not properly sourced.

She said;

“Please note the number of 110 civilians killed on Saturday’s attack is an unconfirmed number and the correct version of the statement by the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator is the one published yesterday on Reliefweb and used on OCHA Nigeria’s Twitter account.”

In another statement released by the UN, the casualty was replaced with “tens of civilians”, while other parts of the piece remains the same.

Election 2020; NDC promises free tertiary education in 2020/2021 academic year

The National Democratic Congress has promised to absorb all fees for SHS students who will be going to tertiary institutions in the 2020/2021 academic year.


As part of it’s campaign promise to get the votes of the electorates, the opposition NDC has come up with a new strategy that when vote into power will implement.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that when voted into power, the John Mahama-led government will absorb the full school fees of Ghanaian students who be admitted to tertiary institutions in the 2020/2021 academic year.

According to a statement signed by Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the National Chairman of the NDC, the decision is in line with the recommendation of the Education Policy Group of the party and it will be incorporated in the People’s Manifesto.

The NDC also indicated that the new policy is termed “Fa Ninyinaa”.

“This policy is an enhancement of our commitment in the People’s Manifesto to absorb 50% of the school fees of all tertiary students for the 2020/2021 academic year through the ‘KYEMUPE’ policy, which will now apply to only continuing students in tertiary institutions in the country,” the NDC explained.

The NDC added that the Flagbearer of the Party, John Dramani Mahama will in “due course”, throw more light on the enhanced package for Ghanaian students who will be admitted to tertiary institutions next year.
