N’Golo Kante was one of the players that played a key role in Chelsea’s momentum run form with Blues extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to eight matches after victory over Sheffield United last weekend.
The 29-year-old defensive midfielder has been a regular this season after an injury-plagued 2019/20 campaign. Kante was started only Premier League games last season with the World Cup winner being out of action several times.
However, the midfielder has started every league match for Blues this season and was rested for one of the Uefa Champions League matches, starting the other two.
It has made a huge difference to Frank Lampard’s starting XI, with a fit Kante providing great protection for the back-line four and allowing the forwards to be at their creative best.
Honestly, a lot of credit is being given to frensh-faced likes of Edouard Mendy, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva but it is World Cup winner, Kante who remains the pivotal defensive player.
The Frenchman offers Silva that extra second to prepare himself for those one-on-one duels he so excels at, despite his age. It is Kante who affords his back-line a much needed breather by covering the hard yards that no one else will, and making them look effortlessly easy.
