APC defends fuel price hike, asks PDP to return ”subsidy loot”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended the fuel price hike which has been approved by the federal government.

In its statement which served as a response to PDP’s rejection of fuel price hike and increased electricity tariff, the APC alleged that successive PDP governments foisted Nigeria a corruption-tainted fuel subsidy regime.

According to the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary Mr Yekini Nabena, Nigerians no longer have to endure tortuous queues to buy fuel.

The statement read;

“The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to a shameless statement by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP on the current petrol price and electricity tariff in the country.

“For successive PDP governments that foisted on the country a corruption-tainted fuel subsidy regime, we call on the PDP to surprise itself and indeed Nigerians by cajoling its cronies who ran the subsidy rackets — many of them in hiding abroad — to return our stolen commonwealth in their possession.

“Under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, the tortuous fuel queues as a result of biting scarcities are gone. The reviewed petroleum products pricing template has resulted in a more transparent, efficient and realistic pricing system for petroleum products and also resulted in constant availability of fuel nationwide.

“The pricing template now reflects competitive and market-driven components which is supported by the citizenry”.

On electricity tariff, the APC said;

“For the PDP that is only concerned with pushing the interests of its few cronies over the general interest and welfare of the citizenry, we dont expect the PDP to grasp the import of this landmark presidential directive which aside improving electricity and service delivery, is also protecting the poor and vulnerable Nigerians from increased electricity tariff and arbitrary/estimated billings.

“Commendably, the federal government is already working to ensure that Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) commit to increasing the number of hours of electricity supply every day and also improve on their quality of service.

“Perhaps the PDP is also unaware, that the current administration has approved a one-year waiver of import levy on electricity meters so that Nigerians who do not have meters can be supplied as early as possible at a reasonable cost.

“The APC calls on the PDP to wake up to the new Nigeria where the government works for the citizens, not a few interests.”

Obaseki Vandalizing Edo Assembly Complex To Impose Illegal Minority Rule – APC

The APC State Media Campaign Council for the Edo Governorship election has accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of personally leading thugs to vandalize the complex of the Edo House of Assembly as part of his bid to enforce the continuation of what it described as an “illegal formation of a partial Assembly.”

Reacting to the blockade of the Edo Assembly on Thursday by security officials, Mr. John Mayaki, the Chairman of the State Media Campaign Council, in a statement forwarded to Igbere TV, claimed that the Governor besieged the complex out of fear that his illegal house of just 5 members will be overturned and replaced with a more representative Assembly.

He said: “The outgoing Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has placed the independence of the legislative arm and the democracy of Edo State on trial.”

“He has ordered the vandalism ruin and destruction of the Assembly complex under the pretense of a renovation exercise out of fear that his illegally-formed Assembly of just four members will be overturned and replaced with a more representative one.”

“It should be recalled that National Assembly ruled that the Assembly formed by Mr. Godwin Obaseki last year after abducting some members-elect dead in the night was illegally done and, therefore, is unknown to law. Regardless of this, and loud outcry from the people of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki persisted in the illegality and denied representation to 14 members.”

“Since then, five more members, led by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Yekini Idiaye, have since renounced the illegal gathering of Mr. Godwin Obaseki and maintained their support for the All Progressives Congress.”

“Out of an Assembly of 24 members, 19 members have backed out of Obaseki’s illegality and declared their support for the APC. Is it not against common logic and all principles of democracy for the Governor to claim to have an Assembly of just 5 members out of the elected 24?”

“The Governor has created needless panic and fear in the state once again because he is afraid that the 19 members, who represent an overwhelming majority, will set aside his illegality. He has invaded the Assembly complex, and the adjoining Ring Road, with thugs and all manner of people to block the Assembly complex, while also commissioning its destruction, including roof removal to prevent any sitting.”

“It amounts to Executive recklessness, disregard for the principle of separation of powers, and complete irresponsibility for Mr. Godwin Obaseki to insist he must dictate to the House of Assembly on who it must elect as Speaker, more so with just the support of 5 members out of elected 24.”

Obaseki is not a threat because he is not even eligible to contest elections – Oshiomhole

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has stated that Governor Godwin Obaseki is not a threat to his party in the forthcoming Edo governorship election.

Responding to a question on if Obaseki’s popularity was a threat to his party in an interview on Channels TV Sunday Politics, Oshiomhole stated that Obaseki who is the flagbearer of thePeoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not a threat because he is not even eligible to contest elections.

He further described the Edo state Governor as a snail involved in a race tigers are in. Oshiomhole said;

“How can he be a threat? A man who is not even eligible to contest elections? How can a snail be a threat in a race where tigers are involved?”
