Champions League final: Barcelona to pay Liverpool £4.5m after Bayern win trophy

Barcelona will pay Liverpool €5m (£4.5m), after Philippe Coutinho won the Champions League with Bayern Munich on Sunday.

Coutinho came on as a second-half substitute as the German club defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Brazilian who is on loan at Bayern, moved to Barca from Liverpool for a fee around £142m in 2018.

After failing to impress with the LaLiga side, he moved to the Bundesliga team, where he has now helped them win a Treble this season.

Coutinho scored twice against his parent club, Barcelona, during the 8-2 thrashing last Friday.

The deal to sign Coutinho from Liverpool included a number of potential add-on clauses and interestingly, they are player-specific not club-specific.

One of those clauses was that Barca would pay Liverpool €5m if the 26-year-old won the Champions League in either the 2018/2019 or 2019/2020 season, but it does not specify that it had to be while playing for them.

Neymar In Tears After Losing UEFA Champions League Final To Bayern (Video/Photo)

PSG star forward, Neymar Jr, was left in tears after his club sufferedd a 1-0 Champions League final loss to Bayern Munich in Lisbon on Sunday night, August 23.

At the end of the match, Neymar, 28 had to be consoled in the dugout by PSG sporting director Leonardo as he was seen crying bitterly.

If PSG had won, it would have been Neymar’s first champions league title since leaving Barcelona in 2016.

PSG might not be able to come this close to winning the UCL while the Brazil star is still there, which hurts more.

Champions League: Bayern Munich crush Lyon, to face PSG in final

Bayern Munich are through to the final of this year’s Champions League.

The Bundesliga side brushed Lyon aside 3-0 in Wednesday’s semi-final clash.

It was Lyon who started the game better, but they failed to convert a host of chances in the first half.

Memphis Depay shot wide after running clear, before Karl Toko Ekambi struck the woodwork from close range.

Moments later, Bayern took the lead through Serge Gnabry’s rising drive. The winger then doubled their advantage before the break.

Robert Lewandowski added gloss on the victory with a bullet header, his 15th goal in the competition this season.

They now play Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s final.
