Hon. Yunusa Ahmad Abubakar, the APC Federal House of Reps member representing Yalmatu/Deba Constituency of Gombe State has said the ban placed on Twitter operations in Nigeria ought to have come earlier, stating that the microblogging site has aided the Boko Haram insurgency in his constituency.
Yunusa said this on Wednesday when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily to discuss the rowdy House session which saw some members of the opposition party, PDP, walk out of the plenary as they debated the ban of the microblogging app in Nigeria.
When asked if his view on the ban is personal or that of his constituents, Yunusa Ahamd, who says the ban is justified said his stance is both. “This is my personal view and the views of my constituents because I consult them and gauge their views. My constituents have suffered the defects of these Boko Haram and they have been using that Twitter. In fact, that banning should have come much much earlier. So to me, my constituents have a relief now and it is a temporary suspension, not that they were banned.. After all, for Twitter do we have rules to use it?”.

As the interviewer pestered if the Boko Haram insurgents have a Twitter handle, Yunusa changed dimension, saying the insurgents have been using other social media platforms and Twitter is in the same blood group’ with the platforms.
