World Trade Organization WTO boss, Nigeria’s very own Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has begun the fulfillment of her words that her appointment will open doors for women as she named 2 females to two of the WTO’s four deputy leader jobs.
Just as Okonjo-Iweala is the first woman and first African to head the global organisation, having these two women in their positions at the same time is also the first in the history of the WTO.WSW! Okonjo-Iweala Appoints 2 Women To Deputy Leadership Role, First Time In WTO's HistoryThe World Trade Organisation had had a woman in the deputy leadership roles but okonjo-Iweala stressed that “it is the first time in the history of our organisation that half of the DDGs are women”. “This underscores my commitment to strengthening our organisation with talented leaders whilst at the same time achieving gender balance in senior positions. I look forward to welcoming them to the WTO”, she said.

Maintaining the previous balance of one deputy from China, one from the United States, one from the European Union and one from a developing country, Okonjo-Iweala appointed United Atate’s Angela Ellard, Costa Rica’s Anabel Gonzalez, with France’s Jean-Marie Paugam and China’s Zhang Xiangchen.
